Board of Special Interest Groups Coordinators

Liaisons with the Vice Presidents for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Practice

Charge

Advise the BOD on issues identified by the various SIGs;
Execute specific actions approved by the BOD;
Ensure SIGs are operating within the minimum and maximum range of activities, and those activities are approved as part of the Association's strategic plan;
Communicate and cooperate with the various organizational components of the Association to promote the goals and activities of the SIGs as they relate to the Association's strategic plan and related activities and programs;
Coordinate activities and facilitate communication between and among the various SIGs;
Develop, as necessary, guidelines and operational procedures generally applicable to various SIGs;
Elect representative from the BSIGC to represent the interests of SIGs on other boards/committees of the Association when requested.

Composition

Members of the BSIGC include SIG Coordinators, a Chair appointed by ASHA’s Committee on Committees, a NSSLHA representative, two officers from ASHA’s Board of Directors, and the Director of the Special Interest Groups as ex officio.

Term

The Chair shall serve one 3-year term. SIG Coordinators shall serve for no more than two consecutive 3-year terms.

Commitments/Obligations

Lead respective coordinating committee (see SIG handbook for more information on responsibilities of coordinator/coordinating committee members) 10 hours/month
Attend and participate in 2 face-to-face BSIGC meetings; one at the National Office (2 days) and one during Committee Day at Convention (2–4 hours)
Participate in online orientations and other online conference calls as needed (1–3 calls annually)
Participate in/lead BSIGC initiatives (3–5 hours/month)
Chair participates in twice-monthly, 1-hour conference calls.
Chair represents or addresses SIG-related matters with all SIGs, with individual coordinating committees, or other committees and boards (4–6 hours/month)

Desired Service Qualifications/Experiences

Members must be a current coordinator of one of ASHA’s Special Interest Groups or designated NSSLHA representative.
Chair must have served on a recent BSIGC.
Chair may not serve concurrently as a SIG Coordinator or CC member.
