Liaisons with the Vice President for Speech-Language Pathology Practice

Charge

Provide information and recommend guidance for speech-language pathologists and audiologists to follow in the cooperative and collaborative evaluation and treatment of persons with brain injury (LC-14-89)

Composition

APA: three members (representatives from Society for Clinical Neuropsychology/Div 40 (SCN) and Rehabilitation Psychology/Div 22 with at least one member from each Division)

ASHA: three members (representatives from Special Interest Groups [SIGs] and one ex officio). The ASHA members will represent SIGs and will include at least one from SIG 2, Neurogenic Communication Disorders. Other members can represent SIG 2 or other SIGs (e.g., SIG 1, Language Learning and Education; SIG 14, Cultural and Linguistic Diversity; SIG 15, Gerontology), depending on the anticipated project work of the Joint Committee.

Term

3 year terms, with possibility of renewal. Staggered terms when possible.

Commitments/Obligations

Two annual meetings—typically one in February or March in conjunction with the International Neuropsychological Society, Rehabilitation Psychology, or Brain Injury conference, and one in the fall (location determined each year).

ASHA representatives typically meet at the ASHA annual Convention for part of the day on Committee Day.

At a minimum, quarterly conference calls.

Members serve on subteams to write articles on selected topics related to brain injury (e..g., resilience, cognitive rehabilitation, pragmatics, interdisciplinary practice, collaboration between SLPs and psychologists).
