Robert M. Augustine, PhD, CCC-SLP, is Senior Vice President Emeritus for the Council of Graduate Schools in Washington, DC, where he leads national and international consultations and projects advancing the quality, diversity, and internationalization of graduate programs. He recently led a national summit culminating in the publication of best practices for master’s degree admissions. Other recent publications focused on establishing international alliances in the professions and strengthening pathways to graduate study for underrepresented groups. He is currently collaborating with a team of national leaders focusing on transforming the master’s degree educational experience.

Dr. Augustine has contributed to the professions as a practitioner, educator, researcher, and administrator. He holds the title Professor and Dean Emeritus from Eastern Illinois University, where he served as Dean of the Graduate School, Research, and International Education and as Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences. As Dean, he launched initiatives that earned national awards and invitations to present at multiple global summits on graduate education. As Professor and Chair, he developed a birth-through-three program that led to a Visiting Scholar appointment at Herzen State Pedagogical University of St. Petersburg, Russia. As a speech-language pathologist at the Easter Seal Center of Aurora, Illinois, he launched the Center’s first birth-through-three interprofessional program.

A 40-year ASHA member, Dr. Augustine is an ASHA Fellow and Trustee for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation. He served as ASHA’s Vice President for Finance and as Chair of ASHA’s Financial Planning Board. He recently chaired two ASHA committees: the Committee on Leadership Cultivation and the Ad Hoc Committee on Committee/Board, Council Structure Review. He is a former Chair of the Board of Directors of the Council of Graduate Schools and served on the Research Committee of the Graduate Record Examination Board. A former President of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA), he also was an ISHA Fellow and received Honors of ISHA.
