Amazon Alexa

About Alexa

Alexa is Amazon’s voice AI. Alexa lives in the cloud and is happy to help anywhere there's internet access and a device that can connect to Alexa. Alexa can play music, read the news or audio books to you, dim the lights in your living room, and help you stay connected to others via calling and messaging.

Using Alexa Without Voice

While Alexa is a voice AI, Alexa can also work without requiring speech at all. Features such as Tap to Alexa, which lets people interact with Alexa using touch instead of voice, and Real Time Text, which adds a live, real-time chat feed during Alexa calls and Drop Ins.

Accessibility Features for People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

You can ask Alexa to speak louder, faster, slower or anything in-between. Closed captioning of video content is available on all devices with screens. As is Call Captioning for Alexa calls, including Drop Ins, which displays captions in near real-time. Learn more about adjusting Alexa’s speech rate and captioning.

More Time to Finish Speaking with Alexa

Adaptive Listening is a new feature that makes it easier for more people to interact with Alexa. Once enabled, this feature gives you more time to finish speaking before Alexa responds - designed to be helpful for people who may have certain speech impediments, like a stutter, or anyone who just needs a bit more time. To enable the feature, you can easily opt-in to the Adaptive Listening experience in the Alexa App by clicking More → Settings → Accessibility.
