The state of Hawaii has a specific autism mandate, which requires certain insurers to provide coverage for autism spectrum disorder.
The mandate requires individual or group accident and health or sickness insurance policies issued January 1, 2016, to provide coverage for individuals under fourteen for the diagnosis and treatment of autism. Coverage includes behavioral health treatment, pharmacy care, psychiatric care, psychological care and therapeutic care, including therapy services provided by a licensed speech pathologists.
