American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) — The American Association of Colleges & Universities assists campuses wishing to implement changes recommended in the report, Greater Expectations: A New Vision for Learning as a Nation Goes to College. AAC&U is the leading national association concerned with the quality, vitality, and public standing of undergraduate liberal education. AAC& U provides a variety of resources through its publications, meetings, public advocacy, and programs.
American Council on Education (ACE) — The American Council on Education seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives. Resources may be related to innovation, effective use of resources (i.e., accountability), envisioning the future of higher education, etc.
American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Center for Association Leadership — The American Society of Association Executives offers multiple resources related to strategic planning, assessment, etc.
Balanced Scorecard Institute — A number of universities use a strategic planning and management system referred to as the "balanced scorecard" to align their program activities to their vision, mission and strategy of the university, improve internal and external communications, and monitor program performance against strategic goals. There are numerous Web sites that provide information on the balanced scorecard, and the Balanced Scorecard Institute provides basic information on the theory and use of the balanced scorecard.
Center for Organizational Development and Leadership (ODL) — The Center for Organizational Development and Leadership at Rutgers University offers the online guide, Strategic Planning in Higher Education: A Guide for Leaders [PDF].
Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) — The Council of Graduate Schools' mission is to improve and advance graduate education through advocacy, innovative research, and the development and dissemination of best practices. CGS offers a variety of resources to institutions including policy statements, publications and consultation services. Resources may be related to topics such as assessment and review of graduate programs, organization and administration of graduate education, guidelines for development of graduate programs, guidelines for university program review, and program quality assessment.
Inter-Association Network on Campus Internationalization (INCI) — A coalition of U.S. higher education associations developed a Web site providing information and resources for campus internationalization. The portal contains carefully selected links to resources for administrators and faculty leading campus internationalization efforts. Topics include institutional and cultural change, policies, and funding; strategic planning; faculty and staff development; curriculum; education abroad; hosting international students and scholars; international collaboration; community engagement, outreach, and advocacy; and assessment and evaluation.
National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education (NCCI) — The National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education is a global consortium that advances successful transformational change and progressive improvement in higher education. Publications on strategic planning are available as well as resources related to measuring organizational effectiveness, changing departmental culture through strategic planning, and best practices in strategic planning in higher education.
Stanford Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) — The Stanford Center for Teaching and Learning offers a downloadable e-newsletter, "Tomorrow's Professor," which examines the accountability movement in higher education and its potential impact on department chairs. Topics include strategic planning, assessment, and accountability.
