Audiologist
Audiologists in the public schools do not fall under specific teacher requirements of the State Department of Education. State licensure by the New Mexico Board of Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, and Hearing Aid Dispensing Practices is typically required for practice in the schools. Contact the board for additional information.
Speech-Language Pathologist
School-based speech-language pathologists in New Mexico were formerly referred to as related service or ancillary providers.
Initial Licensing Requirements
- Speech Language Pathologist (901) 3 year license
- Official transcripts from all universities/colleges attended with degree(s) posted; and
- Copy of a valid speech language pathologist license issued by the New Mexico Speech Language Pathology & Audiology Board.
- Speech Language Pathologist Apprentice (918) 3 year license (Can renew 1 time, if qualification are met. Two years will be added.)
- Official transcripts from all universities/colleges attended with degree(s) posted; and
- Copy of a valid speech language pathologist apprentice license issued by the New Mexico Speech Language Pathology & Audiology Board.
- Speech Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow (917) 1 year license (non-renewable)
- Official transcripts from all universities/colleges attended with degree(s) posted; and
- Copy of a valid speech language pathologist fellow license issued by the New Mexico Speech Language Pathology & Audiology Board.
Renewal
- Speech Language Pathologist (901)
- Application for New Mexico Continuing Licensure; and
- Copy of a valid speech language pathologist license issued by the New Mexico Speech Language Pathology & Audiology Board.
- Renewal of 901 Licensure Level
- Level 1 is a 3 year license; advancement to a level 2 can be done after 3 years of licensure at a level 1.
- Level 2 is a 9 year license; advancement to a level 3 can be done after 3 years of license at a level 2.
- Level 3 is a 9 year license.
- Speech Language Pathologist Apprentice (918) 2 year license
- Application for New Mexico Continuing Licensure; and
- Copy of a valid apprentice speech language pathologist license issued by the New Mexico Speech Language Pathology & Audiology Board; and
- Proof of enrollment in a graduate program.
