The state of New York has a specific autism mandate.
The mandate requires every policy which provides physician services, medical, major medical or similar comprehensive-type coverage to provide coverage for the screening, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder. Coverage includes, therapeutic care, which is habilitative or nonrestorative, provided by a licensed or certified speech therapist.
