State Association Member Benefits

In addition to being an ASHA member, joining your state speech-language-hearing association offers opportunities to be actively engaged in volunteering, networking, advocacy, and learning within your state.

Volunteering at your state association is an excellent way to gain experience and build your volunteering portfolio. Volunteer opportunities can range from micro-volunteering to joining a committee of interest to running for leadership positions on the state association’s board of directors.

State associations often have social opportunities to meet local professionals like yourself. Being engaged within your state can help raise your status as a professional in the community and build lasting relationships. You may find an interest in mentoring local professionals in your area. Other ways to get involved may include offering your expertise on a project or submitting an article in a newsletter.

Some state associations have lobbyists working in the state who are tracking legislation and regulations that may directly impact you and/or those you serve. State association members are encouraged to participate in Legislative Days at your state capitol and help build a grassroots network.
