Description

The purpose of this position is to provide technical, analytical, and accounting support in all aspects of the budget and pension operations of the association. The incumbent is responsible for updating, testing and implementing various changes and requirements to business processes and the budget system. The incumbent assists in the preparation of financial forecasts, special analyses and graphic presentations for management and volunteer leadership. S/he serves as a primary resource for programming budget and financial reports within the organization. The incumbent performs the accounting functions associated with the administration of the defined benefit and defined contribution plans in compliance with current statutory regulations and filing and reporting deadlines.

Responsibilities

  1. Review and analyze budget data to address key variances.
  2. Identify trends and opportunities to improve financial status.
  3. Prepares procedural documentation, manages system requirements and testing.
  4. Develop reports utilizing multiple reporting tools (i.e. Excel Office Connect or BI reporting)
  5. Work with program and project managers to develop the organization’s (ASHA and affiliate organizations) budget. Review managers’ budget proposals for completeness, accuracy and compliance.
  6. Meet with and guide budget managers at least quarterly regarding budget needs and decisions.
  7. Monitor spending to keep the organization and affiliates within the approved budget.
  8. Presents findings in multiple data visualization formats to various audiences.
  9. Responsible for accounting entries for retirement plans and assists in regulatory tax and compliance filings.

Qualifications

Knowledge Typically Acquired Through

  • Baccalaureate degree in accounting (or similar major) and 5-8 years of relevant experience required.
  • Non-profit or association experience preferred.
  • Technical experience in utilizing accounting, payroll and budget systems preferred.

Scope and Depth of Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge of budget development and accounting principles.
  • Ability to present budget information effectively in narrative, graphic and numerical form.
  • Ability to develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Advanced skill level in the use of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Advanced skill level in PowerPoint.
