The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is a nonprofit scientific and professional association for audiologists; speech-language pathologists (SLPs); speech, language, and hearing scientists; audiology and speech-language pathology assistants; and students. ASHA's mission is to ensure that all people with communication disorders receive quality services from well-educated professionals. We represent 234,000 members, certificate holders, and affiliates.
ASHA is committed to supporting work/life balance and has been recognized as a great place to work many times over. We have recently been awarded:
We realize that there's more to life than work, and that 9–5 doesn't necessarily suit every individual. That's why we offer alternative work arrangements like telecommuting, flexible hours, and compressed work weeks in the summer. In addition, we offer one of the most generous leave packages around, as well as a comprehensive benefit plan that supports the care of individuals and their families.
At ASHA, we believe healthy employees are productive employees. That's why we're committed to promoting health and wellness through programs like our annual Wellness Fair, monthly diagnostic screenings, lunch and learn programs, and fitness classes.
ASHA is committed to the environment and the local community. We have been recognized as the first nonprofit association in Maryland history to have the Gold LEED Certified green building designation. ASHA's community outreach team—ASHA Cares—spearheads a number of community service initiatives for ASHA employees, including school supply drives, adopting families to sponsor during the holiday season, and many others throughout the year.
ASHA works to promote and celebrate diversity both in the National office and throughout our membership. In 2015 we were recognized for providing Best Practices Supporting Workers of All Abilities and in 2018 we received the Diversity Champion Award from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence.
ASHA seeks to provide an environment where staff are encouraged to acquire new skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis, and are provided the resources to do so. We have internal resources such as seminars and workshops, as well as programs like tuition assistance and an external staff development plan.
