Let CMS Know How Outpatient Medicare Payment Policies Affect You

Be heard! Audiologists and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are needed to advocate for improvements to Medicare payment policies proposed for 2023 by letting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) know how they impact you and your patients! CMS is accepting comments on the Calendar Year (CY) 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule.
In this rule, there are two key provisions impacting the ability of audiologists and SLPs to effectively treat their patients.
Improved Access to Audiology Services
Audiologists have advocated for more than two decades for the ability to provide hearing and balance assessment services to Medicare beneficiaries without a physician order. In this proposed rule, CMS identifies that it has the administrative authority to remove the order requirement. However, the implementation of this proposal jeopardizes beneficiary access to care and creates administrative burden and financial risks for both patients and audiologists.
Submit a prewritten comment letter thanking CMS for identifying and using its administrative authority to remove the physician order requirement but make specific recommendations for improving the implementation of this policy to ensure it meets the needs of patients and audiologists.

Medicare Part B Payment Reductions
Audiologists and SLPs providing outpatient services to Medicare beneficiaries are facing significant payment reductions in 2023 unless Congress takes action to mitigate these cuts.
ASHA members are needed to sign a petition to let CMS know that the combination of payment reductions they face in 2023 are unsustainable.
