Make an Impact During BHSM

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM) and a great time to MAKE AN IMPACT on federal legislation. We’re calling on all everyone to help support ASHA’s advocacy efforts by sending prewritten messages (that can be personalized!) to your members of Congress.

Here’s How You Can Make an Impact

1. Pick an issue to advocate on:
   • Protect Audiologists and SLPs from Workplace Violence
   • Improve Medicare Payment Rates to Ensure Beneficiary Access to Care
   • Ensure Interstate Compacts Have Access to Background Check Determinations
2. Review the prewritten message (consider adding personalized text for greater impact)
3. Complete the form by filling in your name and home address (this identifies your elected officials)
4. Click "Send Message" to send the message to your elected officials

ASHA will be putting stories together all month long with photos from you! Here’s how to participate:

• Pick a poster [PDF] to print out and write down what issue you’re most passionate about. It could be something like:
  • I’m advocating for safer health care workplaces
  • I’m advocating for Congress to ensure Medicare payments keep pace with the cost of providing services
  • I’m advocating for the SHARE Act, which will cut red tape and facilitate the efficient operation of interstate compacts 
• Hold up your poster and take a selfie (choose your favorite)
• Upload it to your Instagram account and be sure to add our handle @ashaweb and #ASHAAdvocacy #BHSM
