ASHA CE has been quite busy welcoming new Providers. It’s a great opportunity for us to share some facts about the ASHA CE Program.
To start off, did you know that the first ASHA CE Providers were approved in June 1980? That's right—the same year as the release of the Rubik’s cube and the Mount St. Helens eruption! There are still about 25 Providers who have been around since then. And a big shout-out to Northern Speech Services—they have the longest-tenured Continuing Education Administrator (CEA), who started in 1983. That’s commitment!
Next, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of applications we’ve received over the past 12–18 months. In a typical year, we approve 25-30 new Providers. In 2024, we received 60 applications and have already received 18 this year. Throughout the past decade or so, the number of Providers has hovered around 580. At the time of this writing, we have 620 Providers—and we’re still growing. We’ve increased our global footprint, as well, with Providers in Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel, Japan and Saudi Arabia. We’re proud of our robust and varied group of Providers.
Speaking of variety, it’s always interesting to see the diverse settings from which our Providers come. The pie chart below shows a breakdown of the 67 Providers we approved in the past 12 months.
Since we moved the application online, we’ve asked applicants why they’re seeking to become a Provider. The reasons vary, but they include the following:
Whatever the reason, we’re thrilled to have such an impressive group of organizations that have chosen to pursue and maintain ASHA Approved CE Provider status. We appreciate every one of you—and we look forward to what the future brings. Thank you for being a part of our ASHA CE family.
