Americans with Disabilities Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in employment, State and local government services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and transportation. It also mandates the establishment of TDD/telephone relay services unless an undue burden or a fundamental change in the nature of the goods, services, or facilities would result.
A person with a disability includes any person who has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person's major life activities, has a record of such an impairment , or is regarded as having such an impairment.

The ADA requires that health care facilities modify their policies and procedures, provide auxiliary aids and services for effective communication, remove barriers from existing facilities, and follow ADA accessibility standards in order to ensure that their facilities and services are accessible to all people with disabilities.
