Audiology CPT and HCPCS Code Changes for 2024

The following updates to Current Procedural Terminology (CPT ® American Medical Association) and Healthcare Common Procedures Coding System (HCPCS) Level II codes related to audiology services are effective January 1, 2024. Audiologists can contact ASHA's health care policy team at reimbursement@asha.org for questions.

Note: Audiologists should always check with payers regarding coverage of new or revised billing codes. Coding changes may not always alter payer coverage decisions for specific conditions or services.

Auditory Osseointegrated Device (AOD) Services

The following new CPT codes are effective January 1, 2024. There are no new HCPCS Level II codes related to audiology services or devices in 2024.

Diagnostic analysis, programming, and verification of an auditory osseointegrated sound processor, any type; first 60 minutes

92623

Diagnostic analysis, programming, and verification of an auditory osseointegrated sound processor, any type; each additional 15 minutes

(Use 92623 in conjunction with 92622)

(Do not report 92622, 92623 in conjunction with 92626, 92627)

(For diagnostic analysis of cochlear implant, with programming or subsequent reprogramming, see 92601, 92602, 92603, 92604)

(For evaluation of auditory function for surgically implanted device[s] candidacy or postoperative status of a surgically implanted device[s], use 92626)

ASHA Notes

  • These timed codes describe the first hour (92622) and each subsequent 15 minutes (92623) of time for the analysis, programming, and verification of an auditory osseointegrated sound processor. For more on billing timed codes, see The Right Time for Billing Codes.
  • The services described by 92622 and 92623 include attachment of the processor, device feedback calibration, device programming, and verification of the processor performance, for any type of auditory osseointegrated sound processor, including those attached to a softband.
  • 92622 and 92623 may also be used to report subsequent reprogramming of AODs.
  • As noted in the parentheticals published with the new codes, CPT codes 92626 and 92627 may not be reported in conjunction with 92622 and 92623. 92626 and 92627 describe the first hour and subsequent 15 minutes of auditory function evaluation for pre-implant candidacy or post-implant performance.
