Texas mandated coverage of cognitive rehabilitation in 2001. On or before September 2006, the Sunset Advisory Commission was required to conduct a study to determine the extent to which this coverage is being used and the cost impact, and to report those findings to the legislature by January 2007.
This section provides information on why there is a need for this particular type of coverage. Also provided are letters that ASHA wrote to the BlueCross BlueShield Association opposing its position that cognitive rehabilitation is "investigational." Treatment efficacy reports and a consensus statement from the National Institutes of Health supporting cognitive rehabilitation are also included.
