The Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are accepting nominations for their 2024–2026 Coordinating Committee (CC) elected vacancies. CC members, with the exception of the appointed Editor and Professional Development Manager, are elected by a plurality vote of the affiliates in the respective SIG.
Nominate yourself or another qualified affiliate to be considered for an upcoming vacancy by March 27, 2023.
The SIG CCs lead the SIGs and their activities—such as overseeing the development of Perspectives content, coordinating SIG-developed continuing education opportunities, and contributing to policy and advocacy matters—and ensuring that they operate within established programmatic guidelines [PDF]. CC Members are expected to actively contribute to the success of the SIG and follow the roles and responsibilities specified by the Board of Special Interest Group Coordinators (BSIGC) including the following:
See the Volunteer Leaders section of the SIG Volunteer Handbook [PDF], pages 21-28, for more information about CC member roles and responsibilities.
Note: There may also be SIG-specific expectations or responsibilities; that information will be provided by the CCs via their respective online affiliate communities.
Names of potential candidates must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m., ET, Monday, March 27, 2023, to be eligible for consideration.
Tip: Use the ASHA Community to search for colleagues within your SIG.
Individuals nominated by the date above will be contacted and given until Friday, April 7, to accept their nominations.
Note: Nomination emails will come from SIGs@asha.org; to ensure you receive the notificaitons, add SIGs@asha.org as an approved sender.
Nominees will be asked to provide additional information about their volunteer activities and service to the professions, as well a link to their ASHA Community profiles by Friday, April 7th.
ASHA Community profile tips:
Make sure your profile is complete and current with information you would like to share with colleagues (education, work history, photo, etc.).
You can determine what information is visible to others by changing the privacy settings on your ASHA Community Profile; items must be set to Members Only or Public for affiliates to view them.
The respective SIG CC will review all valid nominations (see guidelines above) to determine the slate of candidates for the election.
Additional process information is available in the SIG Volunteer Handbook [PDF] (see Appendix G. SIG Nomination and Election Process, pages 67-69).
Please send questions regarding SIG Coordinating Committee nominations to SIGs@asha.org.
Deadline: Nominations must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m., ET, Monday, March 27, 2023.
