Tips to Navigate the Job Search
Employers seek to hire highly qualified professionals and it's important to know what information to share—and what questions to ask.
Your resume should include your professional experience and demonstrate your value by including all of these key facts:
- years of work experience, particularly with school-aged students
- previous work settings including of students/clients served and other roles in those settings (e.g. case manager, curriculum consultant)
- experience with supervision experience of graduate students, Clinical Fellows (CFs), and/or Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs).
- speciality areas, certifications, and/or proficiency in other languages (e.g., ASL, Spanish, Mandarin, etc.)
Preparing for Your Interview
Here are some helpful tips:
Engage in pre-interview preparation by identifying strengths and needs—your "why."
Be mindful of your social media footprint: Know which of your social media profiles are public and potentially accessible by a future employer.
Conduct a market analysis and be familiar with Salary and Wage Data for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists in your locality.
Inquire about salary supplements and/or sign-on bonuses.
Familiarize yourself with stipulations attached to accepting a sign-on bonus.
When working for a school district, become familiar with their salary step pay scale.
