The biggest problem in some school districts may be persistent vacancies for qualified audiologists and speech-language pathologists. In these districts, recruitment and retention efforts can be increased by the school district's :
- Agreeing to help the employee to repay, in full or in part, his or her student loan.
- Providing a housing allowance or access to a low interest loan.
- Crediting all of an applicant's work experience toward pay scale determinations. Some districts only use experience in their district, in a particular state, or in schools when calculating years of experience for placement on the pay scale. Districts which credit all of an applicant's experience, irrespective of location or setting, may find it easier to attract qualified applicants.
- Offering access to distant learning models to obtain advanced degrees.
