Academia at a Crossroads: Pathways to Renewal and Innovation
Higher education is at a crossroads, facing threats internal and external that are creating turbulent times for academia. Enrollment declines, rising costs, budget crises, questions of value, political challenges from within and without, academic freedom, and unmet moral leadership are among a host of challenges facing universities and their leaders. While these are not new challenges, the collective burden of them alongside the nation’s political tumult is posing new threats to how the academy functions, how it supports our nation’s social and economic fabric, and the overall priorities of higher education. This talk will consider the unique impact on clinical and scientific fields that these challenges present. It will also explore the roots of these challenges and outline potential innovations and strategies for renewal in higher education. A panel of distinguished leaders in CSD and higher education will share their perspective following the keynote address and will respond to questions from attendees.
This is an invitation-only session, and a reservation is required. Scheduling this event DOES NOT grant you entry. Contact academicaffairs@asha.org for more information.
