What is my 3-year certification maintenance interval?
You can find your 3-year certification maintenance interval by accessing your account information online through My Account, which is found at the top of every ASHA web page. Log in and click on the "Certification" link, or contact the Action Center at 800-498-2071. Your maintenance interval is also printed on the carrier sleeve for your ASHA ID card.
How is my maintenance interval assigned and can it be changed?
Your 3-year certification maintenance interval is assigned based on the date you were awarded certification and begins January 1 following the year you received initial certification or reinstatement. ASHA does not grant interval changes.
How many hours do I have on the CE Registry?
To verify your hours, please log in to My Account and click on the "Certification" link to confirm your interval and the total number of ASHA CEUs earned in your interval.
What will happen if I don't accumulate 30 hours during my maintenance interval?
If you do not accumulate 30 hours during your 3-year maintenance interval and have not been granted an extension, you will lose your certification for failing to comply with the certification maintenance standard. If your certification has been dropped or revoked, you are no longer certified. If you want to regain your certification, you will be required to submit an application for reinstatement in either audiology or speech-language pathology, which includes meeting all of the reinstatement policies and procedures and submitting all of the required application materials.
Can I be granted an extension to complete my professional development hours (PDHs)?
Yes, however, certification maintenance extensions will only be granted beginning December 1 (of the third year of your maintenance interval) through March 31 of the following year. Please submit your request for an extension by completing the ASHA Certification Maintenance Extension Request Form. It is important to note that individuals who request an extension are audited for the maintenance interval for which the extension is granted as well as the next interval.
If I earned more than 30 PDHs during my maintenance interval, can I carry the surplus over into my next interval?
No. The 30 required PDHs must be completed within each 3-year maintenance interval. The Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC) determined that 30 PDHs every 3 years is a minimum number of hours that would demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and ensure currency in the field. Most ASHA certificate holders are participating in more than 30 hours every 3 years.
