How To: Free Online Training to Develop IPP Skills

While working on an interprofessional team, you may find yourself needing new skills—such as clarifying team roles and resolving conflict. To help audiologists, speech-language pathologists (SLPs), other professionals, and students master the skills for effective collaboration, the University of British Columbia Health (UBC Health) created an online training course called “Team-Based Care (TBC) on the Run.” This course is free and publicly available.

What is this training?   

The TBC on the Run series was created by UBC Health for people at all stages of their careers—from students to working professionals. The modules use videos, quizzes, and other interactive elements to create an engaging course. Each 30-minute module focuses on developing a different IPP skill:  

  • Introduction to Interprofessional Collaboration 
  • Foundations of Team-Based Care
  • Interprofessional Communication
  • Patient/Client/Family/Community-Centered Care
  • Role Clarification
  • Team Functioning
  • Interprofessional Conflict Management
  • Collaborative Leadership for Shared Decision-Making    

Participants will receive a certificate after completing each module.

How to Get Started

To get started, simply access the course and set up an account on UBC Health’s website. This will require taking a short survey and confirming your email address. The class is free and available to audiologists and SLPs at any stage in their careers.
