Candidate for Board Member at Large in Audiology: Ryan Liu, CCC-A

Yaojan (Ryan) Liu, AuD, is a clinical audiologist in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor. Throughout his career, Dr. Liu has developed clinical skills to serve patients of all ages. Prior to joining University of Michigan Health in 2013, Dr. Liu held positions at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan and at a private practice that primarily served the geriatric population. Dr. Liu’s areas of interest include hearing amplification technologies; advocacy; clinical education; practice management; and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. He is a bilingual provider serving the Mandarin-speaking population.

Dr. Liu graduated from Chung Shan Medical University in Taiwan with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communicative Disorders. With his cohort, Dr. Liu and his classmates completed the first academic program for audiologists and speech-language pathologists in Taiwan. He maintains his connection with his Taiwanese colleagues and gives talks when he visits Taiwan to share his professional knowledge and experiences. Dr. Liu also earned a Master of Arts in Audiology and Speech Sciences from Michigan State University and a Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree from the University of Florida.

Dr. Liu has been an ASHA member for 17 years. After completing the ASHA Leadership Development Program, Dr. Liu started his volunteer services at ASHA. He served as a member of the Committee on Nominations and Elections and the Committee on Leadership Cultivation. Currently, Dr. Liu serves as the Michigan Audiology Member on the Committee of Ambassadors and an Audiology Practitioner Site Visitor on the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA).

In his spare time, Dr. Liu enjoys paddling, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family. He is a competitive paddler and medaled at the 2019 World Championships as a Team USA Dragon Boat athlete.
